Create Your Own Mini Altar with Tina Lopez!

Celebrate Día de los Muertos by crafting a personal mini altar with Tina Lopez, the beloved community member who helped bring this tradition to life in our area. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design a beautiful altar to honor and remember loved ones while learning about the meaning behind this cherished celebration.

This workshop is free and open to ages 8+, but preregistration is required as space is limited. While the event is free, donations are greatly appreciated to help support future cultural programming.

At the heart of Día de los Muertos are ofrendas —beautiful altars created to honor and welcome the spirits of loved ones who have passed away. Each ofrenda is carefully decorated with meaningful items that guide and celebrate the returning souls.

• Photos & Mementos: Remind us of the loved one we are honoring.
• Marigolds ( cempasúchil ): Their bright petals and scent help guide spirits back home.
• Candles: Light the way for their journey.
• Food & Pan de Muerto: Offer nourishment to the visiting souls.
• Sugar Skulls & Decor: Celebrate the joy of life and the cycle of death.
• Water & Salt: Represent purity and the essentials of life.

An ofrenda is not a place of mourning but of celebration —a joyful reminder that love lives on through memory, tradition, and family. By building or visiting ofrendas, we keep our ancestors close and ensure their stories continue to inspire future generations.
