Did you know...

One of the most iconic symbols of Día de los Muertos is La Catrina —the elegant skeleton lady often dressed in elaborate gowns, hats, and flowers. Originally created by Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada in the early 1900s, La Catrina was meant to remind people that, rich or poor, death unites us all.

Over time, she has become a central figure of the celebration, representing not sadness, but the joy and beauty of life even in the face of death. When people create Catrina outfits, paint faces, or craft accessories, they are carrying on a tradition that blends art, humor, and respect for heritage.

Designing your own Catrina is more than costume-making—it’s a way of honoring ancestors, embracing culture, and showing that death is not to be feared, but remembered with love, laughter, and creativity.
