Jo Ann Moline is a Monterey County, based photographer inspired by the land, agriculture, and natural beauty that have shaped her life. Raised in the Soledad Mission District and surrounded by farming from an early age, her deep connection to place influences every image she creates.
A self-taught photographer, Jo Ann is drawn to natural light, storytelling, and capturing emotion through landscape, agricultural, and macro photography. Inspired by nature, faith, and family, her work reflects a love of the outdoors and a desire to create images that bring peace, beauty, and joy to others.
Jo Ann Moline is a self-taught photographer whose work is deeply rooted in the land, people, and agricultural heritage of Monterey County. Raised in the Soledad Mission District, Jo Ann grew up working in the fields on her family’s farm, where her parents instilled in her a respect for hard work, the land, and the people who cultivate it. She now lives just two miles from the very fields that shaped her upbringing—grateful to still call them home. This lifelong connection to place has had a profound influence on her artistic vision.
Jo Ann attended Mission Union School and Gonzales Union High School before earning a Career Secretarial Degree from Heald Business College in San Jose. While her professional path began outside the arts, her passion for photography emerged naturally through motherhood. Wanting to document the lives and milestones of her growing family, she found joy behind the camera—capturing school events, sporting activities, celebrations, and everyday moments that tell meaningful stories. That passion has continued to grow, supported and encouraged by her family and mentors who appeared at just the right moments along her journey.
Her greatest artistic influence is Ansel Adams, whose reverence for the natural world resonates strongly in her work. Jo Ann’s photography reflects a deep love of the land, nature, and the beauty found in both grand landscapes and quiet details. She is especially drawn to landscape and agricultural photography, often spending hours immersed outdoors, photographing scenes that communicate emotion, peace, beauty, and awe. Macro photography is another important focus, allowing her to bring subjects close—highlighting texture, light, depth, and intricate detail.
Jo Ann’s creative practice is fueled by natural light whenever possible and by her desire to tell a story through each image. She strives to create photographs that convey feeling and bring images to life, offering viewers a sense of joy, calm, and positivity. Her faith in God, along with her love for music, hiking, travel, agriculture, and the outdoors, strongly influences her work and perspective.
Beyond the images themselves, Jo Ann treasures the human connection that art creates. She loves meeting new people, welcoming them into her artistic space, sharing stories, and connecting through her photography. She views photography as both expressive and therapeutic—an opportunity to explore new
